Fred Dawson started out building houses with his Dad. The first house they built together was a huge “A Frame” in Canada on Georgian Bay when he was 11 years old. He still remembers hauling the 2×12’s and 2×10’s up a cliff face to where the house was to be located to afford a beautiful view of the bay. The second house was a house on stilts in the Florida Keys and the last with his Dad was a log cabin near Gaylord.

Thanks again for another job well done. Now I have a truly convenient (and energy efficient) window over my kitchen sink as well as a secure insulated side door to my garage. I can’t quickly list all the jobs you’ve done for me, but I know they go from the biggies (new roof) to the small (“user error” problem with the new window; thanks for being gentle with me), but I know every one was done very well, with minimal aggravation to me, and they last! It’s great to have someone like you to count on. See you next time.
Habitat Enhancers are expert craftsmen, multitalented, always positive, on time; we are always amazed at the projects we throw at them and the perfection in which they are accomplished. Before they leave each day, all is vacuumed and tidy; they wear shoe covers when working inside. Their work always reflects the highest standards, their repairs are undetectable. They take the time to do their work, yet they manage tasks so no time is wasted waiting for paint to dry.
Over the years, Fred has brought our midcentury home to present day with great design and craftsmanship.
Job Well Done!
I wanted to send a note of thanks to you, Brian and Drake, for your expertise and professionalism in executing the project work on “our castle” by the lake. Andrea and I will most certainly refer Habitat Enhancers to friends, relatives and business associates. As we discussed, a key practice that most contractors do not seem to recognize, nor integrate into their process, is simple and honest communication with the customer. You are one of the elite few professionals who do this as routine.
I will definitely look forward to contacting you to assist in our efforts to enhance and maintain our asset. Brian is definitely a valuable asset to you and your business. He continually represents you, your work and your ethics, with his outstanding energy and skills.
You are an absolute gem, and not even in the rough! Thank you so much for our beautiful porch. You’re talented vision, attention to detail, skills above reproach and patience. I’m thrilled every time I look up and see your workmanship on the ceiling, and the field stones, ahh, the stones… I love it, and Paul is so proud.
Looking forward to our next meeting and completion with thoughts of new projects not far behind.
We’re extremely pleased – delighted, actually – with our upgraded kitchen and bathroom. Thank you again for understanding our goals, responding creatively and exceeding expectations.
Your materials selection, design suggestions, attention to details and meticulous craftsmanship reflect an appreciation of our early 20th century home’s character. We didn’t imagine “install cherry wainscoting” was short-hand for mansion-style elegance with inset molding frames, for instance. Your workflow management and partnerships with top-quality subcontractors contributed to this project’s success and timely completion. Personal warmth and a respectful approach to working in an occupied home added to the whole experience of having you and Mike on site.
We’d welcome opportunities to recommend your services and describe why we admire the results so much.
When we met Fred in late 2017 we had completed a fair amount of homework on our planned renovation. Our ideas included renovating the kitchen, great room, hallway, stair case as well as doors and some windows. Floors were removed and walls were changed. Yes it was a big project.
Fred completed our project in 2018. Fred was helpful and insightful, but very respectful of our ideas.
Here are a few random thoughts about our experience:
If your looking for “ball park” estimates and fast quotes, Fred is not your guy. He was thorough in evaluating each aspect of the job. His quotes were accurate complete and did not vary.
Fred and his team can do many many things, yet they recognize when other vendors bring added expertise. Fred’s sub contractors were exceptionally good at what they do.
